How can we work together for businesses that encourage equality? That was the question on everyone’s mind this week at the Illinois LGBT Chamber of Commerce informational luncheon featuring alumni of the Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses Program. CiTTA’s CEO and Chief Consultant Belinda Li served as a panelist at the May 15 event, speaking to her experience as an LGBT-business owner and a graduate of 10KSB.
The Goldman Sachs’ 10KSB is a thriving program with over 500 graduates in Chicago alone (and over 8,000 in the country). Participants learn practical skills from employee management to marketing and receive one-on-one guidance from Goldman Sachs’ professionals.
At the event this week, Li and other alumni connected over their shared experience benefiting from the 10KSB program. Participants discussed the assistance they received developing business plans to guide growth and improving management by the numbers. The “before and after” picture helped inform the attendees, also LGBT-business owners, about how 10KSB might work for them.
All in attendance agreed that bringing 10KSB and the Illinois LGBT Chamber of Commerce together can only help raise the visibility of under-represented businesses in the area. Since 1995, the Illinois LGBT Chamber has been organizing to train, promote, and advocate on behalf of LGBT businesses. The Chamber boasts over 300 members, and these members employ over 2,000 people in the Chicago area.
CiTTA is always proud to be part of efforts to promote equality and be a resource for LGBT-owned businesses!
